Godsmack Sun

Just before the turn of the millenium, the band Godsmack appropriated a piece of tribal tattoo flash (a sun), to use as part of the cover art for their first album in 1998. This album also pictured a heavily pierced girl on the cover, one of the most prominent and mainstream of such images that surely went a long way to influence youths' aesthetic at the time.

Because of the popularity of the band, the logo became popular as well and people started getting it tattooed on them, as what they referred to as the "Godsmack Sun"... But don't assume that everyone who has this is a Godsmack fan, as there are many common variations on it that far predate the band.
