Marcaine

Marcaine (an injectable anesthetic), while usually not as "powerful" an anesthetic as Xylocaine, does last longer. It is often given to patients coming out of surgery to ease recovery.

Marcaine is generally available in two strengths, 0.25% and 0.5%, both with or without epinephrine. If used in small extremities, it is very important that a non-epinephrine type be utilized. While epinephrine generally helps to control bleeding, injection of any product containing epinephrine into a small extremity can lead to severely reduced blood flow and potentially very undesirable results.

Marcaine has a much lower LD50 than Xylocaine, and is not usually appropriate for body modification procedures.
