A surface piercing is a piercing where the entrance and exit holes are (usually) pierced through the same plane — that is, through a flat area of skin. A nape piercing, on the back of the neck, is one of the more common surface piercings. Many piercers also classify piercings such as the Eyebrow Piercing and the navel piercing as surface piercings.
