James Cook

Captain James Cook, 1728–1779, was a British navigator, explorer, and cartographer. He commanded three major voyages in which he explored and named many islands of the Pacific Ocean. The first trip took his ship the Endeavour to Tahiti, New Zealand, and what would later be known as Australia. Returning to England with his crew was the tattooed native Omai. The second journey was the failed attempt to reach Antarctica, and the third journey was to the Hawaiian Islands (where he was killed by natives).
